BRAZIL: São Paulo under new wave of PCC attacks

São Paulo has undergone another week of attacks by gunmen of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) almost two months after the bloody episodes of May. This latest bout has claimed at least eight lives. Police, in a far more measured response, arrested 164 suspects. The state government has continued to refuse federal offers to send in the Força Nacional de Segurança Pública (FNSP), but has accepted federal funds to improve security in the prisons, the PCC's home turf.
